“you are never too old, too wise or too smart to learn something new”

Our Teachers

Carlos Godoy

Carlos is a jewelry designer and maker with more than 30 years of’ experience. The passion for mokume-gane, a secular technique originally from Japan, is the basis of the art used by him, and we cab say that he is one of the greatest specialists in this technique in Brazil. Carlos can be considered a multi-talent artist. That’s how mök, his design studio, was born, where he creates and manufactures his pieces.
Such creativity has already brought him important awards. In 2004, the piece “Samambaia” was one of the finalists in Anglo Gold Designer Fórum Brasil. In more recent editions of the same contest, Carlos stood out in the Designer category, with the “Guerreira Real” tiara and the pieces “Pluri” and “Enigma”.
“My goal is to pass on my knowledge acquired, to disseminate everything I learned from the books I read and the teachers I had. I don’t see a point in not sharing all this with people who want to improve and so continue my work” Carlos says.

Svenja Kalteich

Svenja holds a degree in Art History from the University of Munich and started her artistic career as a successful ceramist to the point of exhibiting her pieces in several international galleries and exporting to several countries.
However, her interest in jewelry intensified over the years and the use of clay as a material for making jewelry did not attract her. “They break so easily and this limits the artist’s creativity.”, she says. And that was the moment when she needed a change: she went to New York and spent 6 months taking an intensive jewelry course at Studio Jewelers. “After my ceramist phase, I found my new favorite material in silver”, she says. In addition to making silver jewelry in her studio, researching the application of copper, acrylic and wood in her jewelry pieces, she also returned to teaching. “I admire people who want to learn while having fun at the same time. This is not only possible, but it’s the goal of my class!” says Svenja. “Fun has a positive effect on motivation levels, determining what we learn and how much we retain.” As a teacher, Svenja inspires, motivates and works the growth of each student respecting the students own speed and rhythm. “We all have our own time to do, resolve and learn things.
