Ispiration

This series is mainly about Svenjas’ grandmother, because she passed her love for pearls to her. She was very stylish, liked to dress up and pearls were her favorite jewelry. Svenja and her sister were fascinated going through grnadmothers drawers full of little shiny creatures in different colors and sizes. “As a child I already noticed the minimal differences in the pearls shapes”. Biology class in school later explained the amazing process of how an oyster produces a pearl. Unbelievable mystery that turns a little intruder, a grain of sand, into an adorable masterpiece. The love for pearls seems to track Svenja. “In my art history studies in Munich I was always so much in love with “The Birth of Venus” painted by the Italian painter Botticelli, which shows the goddess of love born from the sea: just like a pearl!”
“Pearls for me are like people… perfectly imperfect. Never two identical pearls will be found and no two people are identical. Everybody has its own identity. And this is great.”
